Tobacco, Tobacco-like and Vaping Products

October 28, 2019

On October 2, 2019, Minister of Health Tyler Shandro announced that a review of Alberta’s Tobacco and Smoking Reduction Act (TSRA) would begin by November 2019. The review has now launched and will allow the government to assess the effectiveness of the current legislative framework and consider options to further prevent and reduce the harms of tobacco, vaping and tobacco-like (herbal shisha in a hookah/waterpipe) products in a comprehensive and evidence-informed way.

As part of the review, a public online survey is available from October 25 to November 29, 2019, for you to provide your feedback on tobacco, vaping and tobacco-like (hookah/waterpipe) products. Alberta Health encourages you to complete the survey so that it is able to successfully gauge the opinions of Albertans on these issues.

For information on the TSRA legislation and policy areas under consideration please refer to this TSRA backgrounder.

If you require further information or have questions about this consultation, contact the TSRA Secretariat at tsra.review@gov.ab.ca.
