Meet our New Councillors

December 2, 2021

On December 1st, the four regulated members who were recently elected to Council began their three-year term. They bring a variety of knowledge and background to the Council table. Two will draw on their previous experience with our College, having served on Council and various committees. And two are volunteering with us for the first time, bringing fresh perspective.

They will each add diversity to our Council team. We’re looking forward to having them contribute to the work Council does to ensure dental assistants are providing safe and competent care to Albertans.

Keep reading to learn more about them.

Chelsey Dudley

When Chelsey was 12 years old, she wore her first set of braces and her love for the dental industry was born. In 2001 she graduated from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology Dental Assisting Program and has worked as a dental assistant ever since. She has spent time in all areas of the dental field, including orthodontics. She is currently an instructor within the SAIT Dental Assisting program and has obtained a Provincial Instructor Diploma.

Through SAIT Chelsey has been able to collaborate with The Alex, volunteer for the Smiles Dental Clinic and host an oral hygiene information session for the PREP program. Organizing practicum placements for students allows her to connect with many Alberta dental practices. She has experienced the unique and diverse culture of each office while on practicum site visits.

When not at work, Chelsey spends her free time with her husband, two teenage daughters and son. She also loves to bake whenever possible, including cakes she decorates for friends and family.

Sheri Gervais

Sheri has been a Registered Dental Assistant for 32 years. In that time she has worked chairside and front end. She has also taught Dental Reception at the Grande Prairie Regional College. She currently works in a small private practice as an RDA and front-end administrator.

In the early 2000’s, Sheri served on our Council for two terms. Next, she continued her commitment to volunteering by serving on dance and sport committees for her children. Now that her children have graduated from junior sport, she is shifting her focus back to her profession and is ready to give it her all as a College Councillor.

On a personal note, Sheri has been married for 32 years and has two grown children. She enjoys travelling, skiing, golfing and a nice glass of wine.

Genevera Hunt

Genevera completed the Dental Assisting program at Columbia College and graduated with distinction in 2003. She pursued her dental assisting career in the Calgary area working in both general and specialty dentistry. Since then, she has expanded her knowledge in areas such as treatment coordinator, inventory management, staff scheduling, training and mentoring. She enjoys a challenge and strives for personal and professional growth.

True to her word about enjoying a challenge, at the November Council meeting she submitted her name for Vice-President. Council elected Genevera to serve in the role for 2021-22.

When not in the clinic, she spends time gardening, hiking, camping, travelling and spending time with her husband and three children.

Lisa Rahimi

Lisa completed her dental assistant education in Newfoundland in 1991. As a native Calgarian she chose to move back to Alberta in the mid-90’s. She has worked in chairside and administrative roles in general dentistry and specialty practices.

Lisa has been a member of Council since 2017. She has served as a Regulated Member Councillor, Vice-President and President. She has been re-elected by our registrants for another three-year term. At their November meeting, Council elected her as President for 2021-22. Lisa also served as a Councillor several years ago. Clearly, she is dedicated to her profession and the College.

In addition to volunteering with our College, for the past 12 years Lisa has been an active member of her community association. She also serves on many other boards/committees in and around the Calgary area.
