To help us meet goals in our Strategic Plan, we have engaged The Regulator’s Practice as an external evaluator to carry out our Governance Review. By this, we mean a review of our governance framework, including the culture and environment of our organization.
The evaluator is observing our Council meetings, reviewing our documents, and gathering input from key participants. Through interviews and surveys, they will engage with the public, government, dental assistants, Council and committee members, other regulators, dental assisting associations and College staff.
Dental Assistants’ Input
As part of their evidence-gathering stage, The Regulator’s Practice is seeking input from dental assistants through a short survey. We encourage dental assistants to watch their inboxes for our September 10th email – it will include their link to the survey. The deadline to respond is September 25th.
Scope of the Review
The review will cover decision-making, rule-setting, risk management and the enforcement mechanisms that guide the functioning of our College. It will also include researching currently accepted best practices, as well as promising emerging trends in regulatory organization governance. Within that context, the evaluator will assess our current governance culture, structure, tools, processes and supports and then, based on their research, make recommendations including actionable items and evidence to support their recommendations.
Following the review, we will take innovative steps to have the best policies, procedures and tools in place to ensure we are effective and efficient at regulating dental assistants in the public interest.
