COVID-19 Vaccine for Dental Assistants

January 12, 2021

At this time, it’s not clear where dental assistants, in general, fit into Alberta’s phased immunization program.

Depending on your individual practice setting (e.g. public health, community-based), you may be offered immunization sooner than other dental assistants. These decisions are being made by the Alberta Government. They have a team overseeing the vaccine distribution plan. That team has many factors to consider when determining who fits into each phase of the program.

If we learn anything more specific about when dental assistants will be eligible for immunization, we’ll share it here, on our website. We invite you to check back often to stay informed.

After You’ve Been Immunized

You must still follow:

  • Alberta’s COVID-19 restrictions and preventive measures
  • Dental Practice Guidelines during the COVID-19 Pandemic
  • COVID-19 Return to Work Decision Chart for Healthcare Workers

Regardless of your immunization status, you must apply the Dental Practice Guidelines to your practice. And, if you’ve had a potential exposure to COVID-19, you must still quarantine according to the Return to Work Decision Chart.
