Complete the Patient Relations Refresher every year before renewing your practice permit. You must have already completed the Patient Relations Learning Module before your first renewal.

When you become registered as a dental assistant, you must complete the Patient Relations Learning Module.

To meet the requirement, you need to complete the Patient Relations Learning Module:

  • one time
  • before the first time you apply to renew your practice permit

After completing the full Learning Module, you will complete the Patient Relations Refresher in the following years.

Patient Relations Learning Declaration

In your practice permit renewal application, you will make a declaration that you have completed the required patient relations learning. The first time you renew your practice permit, ensure that you have completed the Patient Relations Learning Module before making the declaration. Making a false declaration is unprofessional conduct and may lead to being referred to the Complaints Director.

You must complete the Patient Relations Refresher every year before you renew your practice permit.

To meet the requirement, you need to complete the Refresher:

  • every year between December 1st and when you apply to renew your practice permit
  • after you have completed the Patient Relations Learning Module one time

Full Learning Module Before the Refresher

To use the Refresher to meet the yearly requirement for patient relations learning, you must have already completed the Patient Relations Learning Module one time.

Patient Relations Learning Declaration

In your practice permit renewal application, you will make a declaration that you have completed the required patient relations learning. Practice Permit Renewal

In your practice permit renewal application, you will make a declaration that you have completed the required patient relations learning. We verify your declaration by checking the records in the Professional Practice Learning Centre (PPLC), so you don’t need to send us anything when you apply to renew.

Continuing Competence

If you choose to use the patient relations learning toward your Continuing Competence Program requirements, you can upload a copy of your Certificate of Completion as your verification of learning.

Certificate of Completion

When you complete the Patient Relations Learning Module or Patient Relations Refresher in the PPLC, you will receive a certificate of completion. We encourage you to keep a copy of your certificate of completion for your records.

Every regulated member of our College who has a valid practice permit (dental assistants) must complete patient relations learning every year. This applies regardless of the dental assistant’s role, title or practice environment, or whether the dental assistant provides services on a full-time, part-time, infrequent, or volunteer basis.

If you hold a valid practice permit, you must complete patient relations learning.
