Registration Requirements

To become a dental assistant you must:

  • complete a dental assistant education program
  • complete National Board requirements or meet Labour Mobility requirements
  • have current practice
  • demonstrate good character
  • have Professional Liability Insurance coverage

Dental Assisting Education

  • approved programs
  • refresher course
  • entry and advanced practice courses

National Board Certificate

  • written exam for accredited program graduates
  • written exam and clinical evaluation for non-accredited program graduates

Current Practice

  • recent graduate
  • current dental assistant registration/certification (Labour Mobility)
  • current practice hours
  • refresher course or clinical evaluation

Good Character

  • verification of standing
  • Criminal Record Check
  • civil judgments

Professional Liability Insurance

  • name on policy
  • occurence-based coverage
  • $2,000,000.00 per claim
  • $3,000,000.00 for all claims combined per year
