Through the CCP audit, we review dental assistants’ competence records and provide feedback aimed at helping them meet requirements and gain a deeper understanding of continuing competence participation.
Understand the CCP audit
We audit at least 5% of dental assistants’ CCP records each year. In January, we email notices to everyone we select for audit and include which years of CCP records we will review.

Watch this CCP audit video for information about the audit, including:
- which records we will review
- what we’re looking for when we review your records
- what you can do to get a Satisfactory result
What we review during an audit
During an audit, we check that you can demonstrate current practice and review your learning goals, including verification.
We use the criteria throughout the CCP Policies and the Audit Evaluation Guide to decide if an audit is Satisfactory or Incomplete.
Our goal for audit is to support you in understanding and meeting continuing competence expectations, rather than to penalize you.
Audit extensions
If you are experiencing extenuating circumstances and want to ask for more time to submit your audit, you must request an audit extension on or before the CCP audit deadline.
Audit results and next steps
Your audit evaluator will notify you of your results by email. The email will include your audit result as an attachment and outline any next steps, if required.
You will receive one of the following audit results:
- Satisfactory – your audit is complete and no further action is required
- Incomplete – additional steps are required to ensure your audit is Satisfactory through the remedial process. If your audit is Incomplete, we will let you know why and what you need to do as next steps. We work with you to help you understand CCP requirements and expectations, with the goal of achieving a Satisfactory audit now and in the future.
Referral to conduct
If you do not meet the CCP audit requirements through the remedial process, the next step may be referral to the College’s professional conduct process. We encourage you to work with us during the remedial process to avoid this outcome.
Appealing a decision
If you are not satisfied with your audit outcome you may appeal to the Competence Committee.
CCP audit workshops
Early in the year, we host a CCP Audit Workshop. In the workshop, we talk about the audit requirements and what you need to do to have a successful audit.
Next CCP Audit workshop
Our next audit workshop will be held early in 2027.
Frequently asked questions
You may be selected for audit for one or more of the following reasons:
- random selection
- new to the CCP in the previous registration year
- completion of previous audit follow-up (remedial) activities
The CCP audit is an educational and supportive process designed to help ensure you’re meeting CCP requirements.
If your CCP records don’t meet the audit requirements, we’ll use the remedial process. In the remedial process, we work with you to help you understand the requirements and how you can meet them.
Our goal is that every audit will be satisfactory.
If you still don’t meet the audit requirements after the remedial process ends, the next step is conduct referral. In that case, we may refer you to the Complaints Director for unprofessional conduct.

Your audit evaluator will notify you of your results by email. The email will include your audit worksheet as an attachment. It will show your audit result and outline any next steps, if required.
- If your result is Satisfactory, no further action is needed.
- If your result is Incomplete, the email will explain what information or documentation is missing.
Please read the email and attached worksheet carefully. Once you’ve made the required updates, reply to let the audit evaluator know the changes are complete.
