Provisional registration is a temporary status. If you have a Provisional Practice Permit, you must complete your registration requirements before you can apply to transfer your Permit from Provisional to Registered.
Before you transfer
If you graduated from an accredited program, complete this registration requirement:
- acquire the National Dental Assisting Examining Board (NDAEB) Certificate
If you graduated from a non-accredited program, complete these registration requirements:
- pass the NDAEB Theory Exam, and
- pass the Clinical Practice Evaluation (CPE), or
- complete intra-oral upgrading at an accredited* dental assisting program for these Practices:
- dental radiographs
- impressions
- dental dam
- selective coronal polishing
- anticariogenic agents
- pit and fissure sealants
- matrices and wedges
- topical anesthetic
- bases and liners, and
- acquire the NDAEB Certificate

How to transfer
When you’ve completed your registration requirements, you’ll complete and submit the Transfer from Provisional to Registered application. Find this application in our Portal at Registration Change Request.
The fee to apply to transfer is $25.00 plus GST.
After you transfer to registered
Once your transfer is complete, take the following steps to access your practice permit and ensure you understand your practice status and responsibilities:
- Sign in to the Portal to access and print your new practice permit.
- Review your permit to confirm any conditions on your practice and any advanced practice authorisations.
- Review Dental Assisting Practice in Alberta to understand entry-level and advanced practices, as well as conditions and authorisations.
- Renew your practice permit annually before it expires on November 30.
