We’re pleased to share our 2025-26 Annual Report, which reflects the work we carried out between June 1, 2025, and May 31, 2026, to regulate dental assistants in the public interest.
The report highlights how we fulfilled our responsibilities under Alberta’s Health Professions Act through registration, continuing competence, professional practice support, program approval, professional conduct, governance, and stakeholder engagement.
Supporting public protection
Protecting the public remains at the centre of everything we do. Throughout the year, we continued our work to help ensure Albertans receive safe, competent, and ethical oral health care from regulated dental assistants. The report highlights how our regulatory programs, standards, and oversight activities contribute to public confidence in the profession.
Highlights from the year
This year, we continued to focus on strengthening our core regulatory functions and improving the programs and processes that help protect the public.
Some highlights from the reporting period include:
- Regulating 7,283 dental assistants across Alberta.
- Welcoming 818 new regulated members to the profession.
- Completing a review of our Program Approval function to support stronger accountability, transparency, and evidence-informed decision making.
- Auditing 500 continuing competence records and using the results to identify opportunities for program improvement and registrant support.
- Advancing recommendations from governance, communications, and continuing competence reviews to strengthen our effectiveness as a regulator.
- Expanding engagement with registrants, students, educators, and stakeholders across Alberta’s oral health community.
Looking ahead
A significant milestone this year was the launch of our new 2025-30 Strategic Plan, which will guide our work over the coming years. The plan focuses on four strategic goals:
- Position the College in a Shifting Landscape
- Elevate Practice Standards
- Strengthen Stakeholder Trust and Engagement
- Optimize Governance Effectiveness
These priorities will help us continue improving our regulatory programs, strengthening trust and engagement, and supporting safe, competent, and ethical oral health care for Albertans.
