Council Activities – September 2025 Update

September 8, 2025

Since our August 2025 update on Council activities, Council met once for their regular meeting in September. These are Council’s activities since our last update:

Approved

  • the 2025-30 Strategic Plan

The 2025-30 Strategic Plan incorporates input gathered through stakeholder engagement, including the public, registrants, Council, staff, and educators. The Plan includes strategic goals and enabling objectives that Council will use to measure progress and inform updates to the Plan.

  • changes to Continuing Competence Program Policy CCP10 Audit

Council approved removing the clause that specified which years of records will be reviewed during a CCP audit. This will allow the Competence Committee to decide the best approach for each audit based on current circumstances.

  • changes to Registration Policy RP7 Advanced Practice Authorization

RP7 now requires graduates of non-accredited dental assisting programs to be authorized for all entry practices included in the National Dental Assisting Examining Board Clinical Practice Evaluation before being eligible for advanced practice authorization.

To align with Registration Policy RP17 Current Practice, RP7 was adjusted to clearly require demonstrating current practice to be eligible for Advanced Practice authorization.

These changes ensure that dental assistants meet entry-to-practice and current practice requirements before being authorized to provide advanced practice care to Albertans.
