Council Activities – May 2025 Update

May 27, 2025

Since our March 2025 update on Council activities, Council participated in one e-vote and met once in May. Though Council’s activities usually take place during their regularly scheduled meetings, occasionally they need to make decisions between meetings. These are Council’s activities since our last update:

Adopted

  • a 2025-26 meeting schedule

Appointed

  • Marieta Siebert to the Program Approval Committee for a three-year term effective April 4, 2025
  • Andrea Snow as the College’s Complaints Director, effective May 26, 2025

Council has appointed Andrea as Complaints Director to replace Susan vander Heide, who is retiring from the College.

Approved

  • adding $3,500.00 to the Treatment and Counselling Fund

The amount in our Treatment and Counselling Fund is based on the Funding for Treatment and Counselling Regulation, which requires that we provide for 100 hours of psychiatric counselling to eligible patients, and Council’s decision that the Fund should be available for up to five patients. The April 2025 Schedule for Medical Benefits includes an increase to the hourly fee for psychiatric counselling. The new Fund limit covers 100 hours for five patients at the new hourly fee. Adding $3,500.00 to the Fund will ensure we have sufficient funds available.

  • changes to the Registration Policies

RP13 Good Character and Reputation changes include indicating that a Verification of Standing is valid for 30 days.

RP15 Cancellation of Registration and Practice Permit changes include addressing registrants cancelling their own registration and subsequent reinstatement, including that current practice must be demonstrated for advanced practices.

RP17 Current Practice changes include adding indicators specific to advanced practices. This supports transparency for applicants and registrants, and consistent processes for assessing applications.
