Who we are
The College of Alberta Dental Assistants oversees the professionals who provide Albertans with dental assisting care. We protect the public interest by setting standards for competence, ethics, and practice, and by ensuring that dental assistants provide safe, ethical, patient-centred care.

One way we do this is by engaging Albertans meaningfully in our work—not only at the Council level but also through our committees. These committees play a vital role in upholding professional standards and supporting our governance work, and we want your voice at the table.

Who we’re looking for
We invite Albertans from all professions, communities, and experiences to apply. Prior board or committee experience is helpful but not required—we value a broad range of perspectives. Applicants:
- must be a resident of Alberta
- bring insight from a public perspective
- bring experience and qualifications that align with the needs of the committee
Committees seeking public members
Competence

Our Competence Committee directly supports our Continuing Competence Program.
This committee has authority to make decisions about Continuing Competence Program audit submissions. In addition, the committee reports and makes recommendations to Council on other competence program matters.
Committee activities
- review competence audit submissions
- review and make recommendations regarding our Continuing Competence Program policies and procedures

Registration

Our Registration Committee directly supports our registration activities.
This committee has authority to make decisions about registration applications and referral to the Expert Review Panel. The committee also reports and makes recommendations to Council on other registration matters.

- review registration applications
- participate in registration assessment training

Finance, Risk Management, and Audit

This committee reports and makes recommendations to Council but does not have authority to make decisions.
The committee indirectly supports our regulatory work by overseeing finance, human resources and risk management.
Committee activities
- review and make recommendations regarding our risk management program
- review and recommend an annual operating budget prepared by management; the budget includes staff compensation, professional development and achieving our strategic plan goals
- oversee the integrity of our operational systems including financial, human resources and risk management
- review and recommend policies for human resource management, financial administration, information technology, security, capital acquisition and asset management
- monitor trends in revenue and expenses
- monitor compliance with legislation including employment standards, occupational health and safety, privacy and human rights
- review our audited statements with financial auditors
- recommend appointment of auditor
- provide observations to the Governance Committee regarding Council structure and functioning

Governance

This committee reports and makes recommendations to Council but does not have authority to make decisions.
The committee indirectly supports our regulatory work by overseeing our governing documents (bylaws, policies, etc.) and practices, and committee recruitment and selection.

- review our Bylaws to ensure they comply with legislation and leading practices in bylaws and governance
- review our Governance Policies for effective and efficient governance
- review our governance practices for effectiveness, transparency and focus on Mission, Vision and Values
- develop and implement process for:
- Council performance review
- Registrar & CEO performance and compensation review
- committee recruitment and selection
