Key Considerations for Stage 3

July 5, 2021

Alberta is in Stage 3 of the Alberta Open for Summer Plan. While Stage 3 lifts most of the public health restrictions, Dental Assistants will continue to provide safe care during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

To allow for consistency in dental practices, we worked together with the Alberta Dental Association and College (ADA&C) and the College of Registered Dental Hygienists of Alberta to create a joint document: Key Considerations for Dental Practice Moving Forward During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The Key Considerations replace the Dental Practice Guidelines During the COVID-19 Pandemic that were in place to guide dental practices before Stage 3.

As noted in the Key Considerations, Dental Assistants must follow the ADA&C’s Standard of Practice: Infection Prevention and Control Standards and Risk Management for Dentistry. The Key Considerations provide additional steps they will take as they continue to practice during the Pandemic. They will communicate with their employers and colleagues to ensure they are using informed decision making to guide their practice.

Dental Assistants will follow the IPC Standards and apply best practices and what they’ve learned from Pandemic practice. By doing this, they will continue to be an important part of providing safe care to all Albertans.
