  • Calgary: Wednesday, October 9, 5-9 PM
  • Red Deer: Thursday, October 24, 5-9 PM
  • Edmonton: Tuesday, October 29, 5-9 PM

Registrants attending an in-person focus group can expect a guided discussion led by competence development expert Teresa Bateman. The session will include an in-depth review of our current Competency Profile, with opportunities to discuss areas in our authorized practice that are undefined, missing, or have evolved. This will be a collaborative environment focused on learning and growth, featuring open dialogue on key topics. Your input and experiences will be highly valued, and participants will receive a certificate of attendance.

Reviewing the Competency Profile

Through our Continuing Competence Review in 2023, we heard from dental assistants that there are gaps in the Competency Profile. This review will identify those gaps and bring the Profile up to date with current practice.

The competencies listed in the Competency Profile define the knowledge, skills, behaviours and attitudes of dental assistants in Alberta that lead to safe and ethical oral healthcare. Dental assistants, employers, managers, and educators rely on the Profile to guide practice, roles, and responsibilities.
